CHRISTIAN HOLSTAD New York , New York

installation: the plastic bubble

this exhibition by Christian Holstad is a tribute to the life of David Vetter, better known as "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" (born without an immune system, Vetter lived until the age of 12).  The bubble represents the physical isolation of Vetter's world and is a symbol of outsider-ness in general. It was first exhibited in January 2003 at Daniel Reich Gallery, NYC (Life is a Gift) as a room containing his drawings and collages.  Here, it was  exhibited fully inflated -- and empty -- for the first time.
